UltrasoundULTRASOUND/SONOGRAM SERVICES
Abdomen/Pelvic or Renal Sonogram
An ultrasound of the abdomen and/or (renal) kidneys provides in depth information about the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancrease and kidneys. The pelvic ultrasound provides information on the bladder and female reproductive organs. An ultrasound is a painless imaging process which utilizes an imaging “probe” or transducer that emits and detects sound waves providing the ability to visualize internal organs and vessels. It usually takes about 30minutes to perform. Patient preparation for an Abdominal/Renal ultrasound: nothing by mouth after midnight or 6 hours prior to appointment. Patient preparation for a Pelvic/Bladder ultrasound: complete drinking 4 glasses of clear liquid or water 30 mins prior to exam.
What is a Neck or Thyroid Sonogram?A sonogram of the neck allows the evaluation of the thyroid and parathyroid glands as well as other soft tissue changes. Neck or Thyroid sonography does not include evaluation of the carotid and should not be confused with a Carotid Doppler. Although the carotid artery is located in the neck, this imaging uses a more specialized ultrasound technique. It usually takes about 30 minutes to perform with no special preparation. Carotid, Venous, or Arterial Doppler.
EchocardiogramAn Echocardiogram is an ultrasound exam that provides real time images of the heart. The Doppler portion of the exam evaluates the blood flow through the heart valves. The test is painless and usually takes 45 minutes to an hour to perform with no special preparation.
